Words ..... and wording .....

I was reading through the most recent posts on a popular site this morning and I saw the following prayer request:
I know this sounds dumb and shallow in light of every other prayer and problem on this site, but I really hope you’ll bless this relationship with my first boyfriend. I’m a total dweeb and he’s really cool and there a tons of other better girls out there who are prettier, smarter, funnier, and just all around better than I am. I don’t know what he sees in me but I really really hope that we can be together for a while and learn to love each other, at least for a little bit. He means a lot to me and I pray that I come to mean a lot to him to.

In Jesus name I pray, Amen

The way we use words is SO important.  In this case, the person is minimizing their request already by pre-qualifying the request with “I know this sounds dumb and shallow…”.  Matthew 7:7 says:  ”ask and it is given”.  It does not say “ask and MAYBE if you’re not dumb and shallow….” or “ask and if we feel you deserve it….”.  It says “ask and it is given”…period.  If you can’t believe you deserve it, how will you ever be able to receive it??

This person goes on to say “I’m a total dweeb” and “there are tons of better girls”.  If you don’t think you’re awesome and worthy of him, how can HE think you’re awesome and worthy of him ???

This guy is LUCKY to have you, whoever you are.  I challenge you to look in the mirror and say, “I love you, (insert your name)” directly into your eyes.  Every time you look in a mirror, say “I love you” to yourself.  Start seeing in yourself what this guy you think is so awesome sees in you.  He chose you over the “tons” after all!!!  :)

Jesus said “Everything is possible for the person who believes.” Mark 9:23.  So, what do you really believe to be true about yourself ?  Because, that’s what is true - whether you want it or not !!!!!!

Just my $0.02 :)
